I feared the worst in September

Steve Coppell admits the relegation warning bells were ringing as far back as last September – but he remained confident Reading would be able to beat the drop.

Royals did minimal business last summer as £2.5million club-record Emerse Fae and Liam Rosenior were the only new arrivals before the transfer window slammed shut at the end of August.

Although I am gutted that we got relegated, I am still proud of the team and where they have come in the last few years. This time three years ago we were a mid table Championship team with no real hope of promotion - but an amazing season followed and we have been lucky to get two years of Premiership football in Reading. Next year may feel like an anti-climax, but hopefully we will be near the top of the Championship and back in the Premiership soon.
