Harrison revels in 'best day' as Ascot United chairman

Mike Harrison has hailed Saturday's FA Vase triumph as “the best day” the club has experienced during his time as chairman.

United will make the short trip across the Solent on Saturday to take on Newport vying for a place in the competition's quarter-finals.

The game with Borrowash Victoria at the weekend represented a venture into uncharted territory for the club, as it was the first time Ascot had reached that particular stage of the Vase.

But a convincing 3-0 win in Derbyshire now sets up another new challenge for the only Hellenic League representative among the teams in the last 16 – one which Harrison believes the club is fully deserving of.

“I have been chairman for 10 years and this is the best day we have ever had on the pitch,” he said.

“As you saw we deserved it, we were the better side and we got what we deserved.

“It doesn’t always happen that way, but it is great.

“It is a good day.”

Speaking ahead of the trip to the Isle of Wight, Harrison added: “We are all pinching ourselves a bit, because it is fantastic.

“But make no mistake, we deserved to be here.

“But what you deserve and what you get are not always the same thing.

“We are just very pleased to be here and we will see how we do at the weekend.”
