Thatcham Town Res 1 Woodley Town 3By Mark Rozzier

Second half goals from Nick Edwards, Sam Cripps and Billy Gordon helped Woodley Town record their second win in three days with victory at Thatcham Town Res on Tuesday night.
Played in below freezing temperatures, Town had to come from behind to secure their first Hellenic Division 1 East three points since a 3-2 triumph over their midweek opponents at East Park Farm back in October, as Jamie Hillwood fired Thatcham into the lead with a deflected shot in the 65th minute.
And it was the hosts who also enjoyed the better chances during the early exchanges, with Woodley weathering a number of corners before Lee Hamilton went close from a free-kick.
Woodley then enjoyed a spell of possession themselves, with Louis Howell forcing a save from the Thatcham keeper Aaron Carter with an effort from 20 yards, before Edwards sent a shot wide.
Gordon also drew a good save from Carter as the visitors continued to press, but a cleared Howell effort off the line in the 40th minute was arguably the best chance of the half as both sides went in at the break with the score goalless.
Town continued their assault on the Thatcham goal at the start of the second half, with Matt Godwin seeing his strike from the inside left channel turned away for a corner by Carter.
Substitute Brett Rann then fired over following good work from Edwards and another replacement, Rorie Palmer, who, ironically, was making his Woodley debut against his former club, having switched sides earlier in the week.
Having avoided a challenge, Palmer advanced forward before squaring the ball to an unmarked Rann, who lifted his effort high over the crossbar.
And Town's wasteful finishing in front of goal was punished just two minutes later when Hillwood finished a powerful run with an effort which made its way past East via a deflection.
It was almost 2-0 moments later, however, a Woodley defender did enough to clear a goal-bound effort off the line.
The visitors, though, responded well to the setback and scare to emphatically finish the game with three goals in the final twenty minutes of play.
Edwards, fresh from his goal during the 3-1 Reading Senior Cup scalp on Saturday, equalised with his sixth goal of the season when he touched home Palmers centre.
With momentum again in their favour, Woodley went close to taking the lead when Godwin and Rann went close.
But they did not have to wait long to seize the advantage when Cripps, another goalscorer from the cup triumph, grabbed his second goal in as many games when he was presented with an open net after good link-up play between Warren Baxter and Edwards with 12 minutes left on the clock.
East was then called in to action to deny Thatcham an equaliser when he tipped a header around a post as the hosts threw men forward.
But the result was put beyond any doubt when Gordon added a third when he broke forward from midfield, latched on to a Rann pass and sent the ball beyond Carter.
Woodley Town: East, Faherty, Simms, Tallett, Baxter, Clark (Cripps), Gordon, Howell (Rann), Godwin, Palmer (Donegan). Subs not used: Fairchild, Sesay.
