Bracknell Town FC 2 Binfield FC 1
August 13, 2012
Bracknell Town's Barratt brothers, Sam and Tom, scored the goals that knocked Binfield out of the FA Cup at the extra preliminary round stage at Larges Lane.
Trailing to a first-half James Suarez goal, Sam equalised with a great strike from distance before his cross allowed older brother Tom to score the winner and send the Robins fans home happy.
A bumper crowd of 374 turned up to watch the much anticipated game between favourites Binfield and a new-look Bracknell Town team, now playing in Hellenic Division 1 East under the dual management of Steve Nebbett and Danny Oliphant.
It was a hard-fought game, but one low on goalscoring chances, although Bracknell took their's having dominated the second half.
Bracknell's Reece Jacques twice fired straight at Dan Weait early on, while at the other end Ian Davies had a shot which Oliphant could only clear onto the post, but keeper Dexter Burt gratefully picked up the pieces.
Burt, though, will certainly want Binfield's opener back, as the keeper was punished by Davies for taking an extra touch to clear, allowing Suarez to score from the loose ball.
Callum Whitty should have doubled the advantage before half-time, but sent his free header from a corner over the crossbar.
Binfield were tentative from the moment the second half kicked off, allowing the hosts to take control in midfield, laying the foundations for a comprehensive display.
Oliphant had already come close before Sam Barratt's equaliser on 51 minutes.
Having been kept quiet for the first half, the winger switched to the right and ran at the Binfield defence before unleashing a low drive into the bottom corner from outside the box.
A loud penalty appeal followed for Bracknell before the decisive goal arrived with 15 minutes to go.
Liam Alleyne and the younger Barratt worked a brilliant chance, with the latter whipping a cross in for brother Tom who turned the ball in at the near post.
Young sub Seb Bowerman threatened to pull Binfield back into the tie, but Robins held on for a famous win, and celebrated wildly.
Kidlington and Shrivenham drew 2-2, so Bracknell will host the winners of the replay at Larges Lane on Saturday August 25, after Rayners Lane visit Bracknell on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Monday's match for the Moles is postponed due to Witney Town's FA Cup replay - so next for Binfield is at home to Highworth Town on Saturday.
