Finchampstead FC 0 Highmoor Ibis FC 3By Arthur Strand

Finchampstead failed to gain revenge over Highmoor for their 3-0 defeat back in November, as the Hellenic Division 1 East title challengers ended Finch’s five-game winning run.
Highmoor’s Ian Griffin had the best early chances for his side with two shots that both sailed over the bar, but Finch responded with Gavin Rolls breaking through the defence and feeding Matt Wright, whose curling shot went straight at Chris Elton.
Both sides struggled to break their opponents down in the remainder of the half, although Shayne Small-King saw a shot hit the post as half-time approached.
That wasn’t to be the final action of the half, however, and Highmoor made sure they went into the break in front when Jordan Brown, lingering at the back post, knocked the ball back to Aaron Baker to hook the ball home.
Finch, though, made an immediate response and could have easily gone in level.
Elton did well to first punch away Kylo Atkinson’s free-kick and then palm out Andre Kelly’s header on the rebound, before Chris Reid’s follow up hit the post.
A heavy shower made the going tough in the early stages of the second half, but both sides battled on.
Highmoor had a great chance to double their lead when Finch captain Adam Barnard brought down Baker in the area, but the striker’s penalty was well saved at full stretch by Neil Griffith.
Both Kylo Atkinson and Gavin Rolls were after getting into their stride, but Highmoor managed to contain them, while Wright had another chance at goal saved by Elton.
At the other end, Baker missed a sitter when well placed, but after Wright shot over the bar, Baker put the game to bed when he slotted home.
He completed his hat-trick from the spot when Barnard again fouled in the area, and try as they might, Finch couldn’t find a consolation goal.
