Taunton win shows signs of progress at Bracknell Town FC

October 08, 2009

Bracknell Town manager Dave Tuttle is hoping their first win of the season will act as a springboard for the team to move up the Southern League Division 1 South & West table.

However, former Spurs defender Tuttle refused to get carried away by the 2-1 win at home to Taunton Town, insisting that the team still has plenty to learn before they can begin competing with the division’s top sides.

“We’re still looking to bring players in but the team spirit is good and the players are doing the job that we want them to do,” said Tuttle.

“That’s all we can ask for.

“I feel we’ve put our mark on the squad since we have been here.

“We’ve made progress but I want a lot more – I want progress in every way. We’re doing ok, but consistently we’re not good enough.

“We need to work on our fitness, and there are people at the club who can be good players, but they need to believe in themselves.

“This isn’t a short term thing, it’s very much long term.

“Mark Haywood and Martin Bradshaw have both come in and played very well, so it’s progress for the club that players are coming through the youth team, but everyone has to do it across the club, both on and off the field.”

Garry Sargeant grabbed his second goal since his return to Larges Lane when he put Bracknell ahead early on against Taunton.

However, the Somerset side dominated for the remainder of the first half, and were unfortunate not to go in ahead at half-time, with Shaun Anthony’s goal all they had to show for their efforts.

However, Bracknell hung on and earned their reward on 81 minutes when Zac Gill was upended in the area and Paulo Cicero scored from the spot at the second attempt after his first penalty had to be retaken due to encroachment.
