Manager’s award goes to Elgar

June 10, 2009

Billy Elgar was Wokingham & Emmbrook FC manager Wayne Wanklyn’s choice for player of the season at the club’s presentation evening late last month.

Wanklyn took to the stage to review and present awards to his successful young squad following his first full season in charge.

Wanklyn congratulated the players on a great season and thanked his staff Sam Page, Roger Herridge and Dan Bateman.

The team achieved a very creditable fourth spot in Hellenic Division 1 East, with the club in the top three for the vast majority of the season.

However, the crowning moment came last month with victory in the Reading Senior Cup final following an impressive 3-0 victory over new Hellenic side Woodley Town.

Wanklyn has used just 20 players throughout the season, with the squad ably supported by the ever-impressive Allied Counties U18 set up.

The manager commented on how he was looking forward to working with more of the young stars next season as the club targets a top-two finish and promotion.

He also said a (hopefully temporary) farewell to Alex Walton, Davis Bellis and Jack Broome and wished them well as they head off to university.

Awards were also handed to the club’s two teams in the Reading Football League, with special mention to Wokingham & Emmbrook A striker Pat Selby for his achievement of Golden Boot winner for all divisions.

Clive McNelly also received the Senior Clubman of the year award .

‘A’ Team: Players’ Player of the Year – Pat Selby.

‘B’ Team: Manager’s Player of the Year- Stuart McDonald; Players’ Player of the year Rob Maws; Most Improved Player of the year      – Martin Rae.
