Chelsea legend Di Matteo coming to Bracknell

Bracknell Town are expecting football royalty at Larges Lane on Tuesday , November 4 as Chelsea and Italy legend Roberto Di Matteo is expected when his Milton Keynes Dons side face the Robins in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Coca Cola League 1 side have confirmed their manager is expected at the game, but Robins boss Byron Walton is fully focussed on the tie, and speaking after Bracknell’s 2-1 victory at Bishops Cleeve on Saturday said: “I expect us to go out and win”.

Rookie boss Di Matteo, 38, made 119 appearances for Chelsea, 34 for Italy and holds the record of ‘fastest ever goal in a Wembley Cup Final’ when his 30-yard strike set Chelsea on their way to a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough. He took over at Stadium:mk in the summer after former boss Paul Ince left for Premier League side Blackburn Rovers.

Bracknell are expecting a bumper crowd for the tie, arguably the highest profile tie at Larges Lane since the Robins' 3-0 defeat to Barnet in the FA Cup fourth qualifying  round in October 2003.

The Robins reached the final of the County Cup back in 2004, losing out 4-1 to Chesham Untied at Wycombe Wanderers' Adams Park, but have been beaten just twice at home this season, and will fancy their chances against the Dons, who are expected to field a Youth side.

The winners of the tie will face Blue Square South side Maidenhead United at home.

* The Robins take on local rivals Windsor & Eton at Larges Lane on Tuesday night in the League Cup and host high-flying Didcot Town in the league on Saturday.

So the MK Club Stealers are coming to town, shouldn't they have started in the South Midlands League MK City/Borough anyone.

"The FA Cup 1st round tie against Wycombe Wanderers will be played at the Cherry Red Records Fans' Stadium - on Monday 10 November kick off 7.45 pm and will be televised live on Setanta Sports 1.

Why don't Reading play in this competition any more? Always used to enjoy the watching the reserves away in this cup at Maidenhead and other local sides. I'm sure the income generated by a larger crowd than normal will help the local non-league sides.
