Bracknell Ladies 1st 1 Wycombe Ladies 2nd 1
Looking to continue their winning ways and keep climbing up the Trysports Three Counties Premier 1 table, Bracknell started in spritely fashion.
Bracknell made all the early running and broke the deadlock when Kelly Lockyer’s shot forced a a great save from the Wycombe goalie, but Becky Peatfield was on hand to follow up and score.
Bracknell then foolishly sat back and allowed Wycombe into the game and the visitors grabbed their opportunity to level things up at half-time.
However, they had man-of-the-match Jen Sawyer to thank as she pulled off a number of fine saves to keep the scores level.
The second half continued fairly evenly and it wasn’t until the last 10 minutes that Bracknell really started to press for the win.
By this time, however, it was too late, and they had to be content with a draw.
Bracknell Men’s 2nd 3 British Airways Men’s 3rd 0
Last week’s failure to beat Milton Keynes meant that there would always be an element of anticlimax to Saturday’s match against lowly British Airways, but that only goes some way to explaining the complete lack of impetus displayed by Bracknell in this MBBO Open Division 6 match.
Bracknell called up Sam Fox Harvey, Max Heaver and Peter Scott from the title-winning Terriers side.
With relatively little to play for for either team, the match had the atmosphere of a pre-season friendly, but a sluggish Bracknell still had enough to beat a relatively lacklustre BA side.
Ashley Holden put Bracknell into the lead midway through a drab first half.
In an equally poor second period, Bracknell finally shook off their lethargy and Adrian Plant grabbed two late goals to make the score a little more convincing.
Although his first had an element of luck, Plant’s second was a crashing drive that left the goalkeeper with no chance.
The points mean that Bracknell are guaranteed at least third place in the league with an automatic promotion spot still a possibility.
Wokingham Ladies 2nd 4 Bracknell Ladies 2nd 1
With the fate of Bracknell’s season hanging in the balance, the team knew they had to come out strongly in their penultimate game of their Trysports Three Counties Division 2 season.
Facing a promotion-chasing Wokingham side, Bracknell were armed with a full squad and began in confident fashion, shocking their opposition and holding their own in the game.
With depth in midfield, Bracknell were able to produce some fantastic play to break down the Wokingham defence.
And they took a shock lead as Darcy Kaye drove into the D from the right and her shot at goal was deflected in by Holly Howells.
Bracknell withheld pressure from a frustrated Wokingham side, but were unlucky to concede a penalty flick, that goalkeeper Bobbie Oxley was unable to save and the teams went in level at half-time.
Bracknell came out in the second half with yet more determination, but were unable to pacify Wokingham who went on to score three good goals.
Bracknell played some great hockey, with notable performances on the right and left flanks from girl-of-the-game Kalico Kilmartin and Liadh Troy, and despite the scoreline, they managed to avoid relegation.
