Bracknell Men’s 3rd 3 Uxbridge Swans 2
Uxbridge Swans visited Bracknell this weekend looking to extend their lead at the top of MBBO Division 8.
Uxbridge have yet to drop a point this season, but Bracknell took the game to their opponents from the off and held a deserved, if somewhat surprising lead, with a well taken goal by Alex Light.
It clearly woke up the Swans who struck back within minutes with a well-executed equaliser.
Bracknell scored the next goal from a short-corner, which was controlled and smashed against the backboard by Steve Collarbone.
They continued to command the game and added a third in the last minutes of the half with a superb turn and flick from Barney Longden.
Desperate to maintain their 100-per-cent record, Swans made attack after attack in the second half.
Magnificent performances from defender Ian Ellaway and Dave Harris in goal, however, kept the visitors at bay.
At the other end a rare Bracknell attacked ended when Robin Stent was upended by the Swans goalkeeper, but Ben Temple failed to convert the penalty flick.
Swans launched wave after wave of attack in the final 15 minutes, finally resulting in a goal, but it was too little too late as the final whistle blew immediately after, signalling a fantastic win for Bracknell.
Eastcote Men’s 6th 1 Bracknell Men’s 2nd 6
A delayed push back meant that Bracknell’s MBBO Division 6 match away to Eastcote was effectively a floodlit match.
Unfortunately, just like the lights, it took at least 15 minutes for Bracknell to switch on and they trailed to a cheeky chipped goal.
Bracknell were quick to respond, however, as Shaun MacInnes slapped home a devastating strike to put Bracknell back on level terms.
After an even spell, Bracknell took control and a flowing team move was finished off by Dave Mackinder.
By the second period, Bracknell were in full flow, and they scored four goals at a canter with MacInnes, Mackinder, Tom Scott and Steve Williams adding to the total.
Amersham and Chalfont 5th 0 Bracknell Terriers 2
A substantially improved Amersham side provided a stern test for the young Bracknell development team in MBBO Division 10 East.
Amersham defended resolutely, but failed to really test Bracknell keeper Lee Fox Harvey.
Bracknell dominated possession and won many short corners, but a well-drilled Amersham defence nullified Bracknell’s effectiveness from the set piece.
Man-of-the-match Max Heaver launched a number of attacks from right-back, but it was Sam Fox-Harvey who opened the scoring with his sixth goal of the campaign.
The game was balanced on a knife-edge until the very last moment when Bracknell’s Roger Husband open his account for the season by roofing the ball mercilessly when free in the circle.
Bracknell Ladies 2nd 1 Wycombe 4th 4
Bracknell 2s were fit and ready for their first Trysports Three Counties Division 2 match after a month’s break.
Bracknell were confident of a win having drawn 1-1 against Wycombe 4s last year, but it was the visitors who started brighter and opened the scoring early on.
Bracknell soon equalised with a fantastic goal by Joy Westlake and this lifted their confidence, with the team’s shape and play much improving from there.
Wycombe, however, scored a second goal before the break, giving Bracknell an uphill task in the second half.
Wycombe had the upper hand in the second period adding to the score twice to come away with a 4-1 win.
Despite the loss, Bracknell 2s played strongly and still have the potential to gain those much-needed victories to avoid the dreaded relegation zone.
Key performances to note include Bev Randall and Jane Theodolou in defence, while Bonnie Butler and girl-of-the-game Lorna Palmer were solid in midfield.
