Reading’s canal is one of its best features. Being able to sit alongside and watch the water meander by is one of my favourite ways to spend a lazy afternoon.

Restaurants in chain stores can be intriguing places. Ideal for a quick cuppa while shopping till you drop, they have mostly taken over from the little cafes that used to pepper our high streets.

Real ale seems to be catching on, which is terrific. It’s always a pleasure to walk into a pub and not know what you’re going to be drinking next.
