Giving tree will give children a big festive grin

By Hugh Fort
November 28, 2008

Tags are fast being plucked from the borough’s Giving Trees by generous shoppers who want to give something back this Christmas.

Staff at Zappas hairdressers in High Street, Crowthorne, are all preparing to hit the shops after each taking a tag from the tree.

And workers at Dell in Cain Road, Bracknell, and RSA in Western Road have responded well by rushing out to buy gifts for needy children this year.

Gifts will be delivered to young residents of Holly House and Rainforest Walk, facilities for vulnerable young adults in the borough.

Other charities benefiting from the Giving Tree – which is run with The Standard’s sister paper The Wokingham Times – include Parents and Children Together (PACT), Berkshire Women’s Aid and Homestart Wokingham.

A spokesman for PACT said: “We are delighted to be able to give others the chance to contribute towards making a difference, no matter how big or small, and maybe even encourage them to get involved with our work throughout the year.”

Take part...

- Take a tag from any of the Giving Trees in the area. Written on the tag will be a present idea, first name and age of the child it is for

- You then return the gift, unwrapped, to the Giving Tree and they are distributed by the charities in time for Christmas to children who otherwise would not have had any present

- The trees are at: Tesco, Jigs Lane, Warfield, Tesco, Martins Heron, Zappas, High Street, Crowthorne, Dell, Cain Road, Bracknell, RSA Security, Western Road, Bracknell, David Greedy Funeral Directors, Dukes Ride, Crowthorne, and the Standard office in Denmark Street, Wokingham.
