Hundreds of runners braved the heavy rain yesterday to take part in the Bracknell Half Marathon.

Almost 800 sporty participants invaded the town's streets to compete in the popular annual race, which was sponsored by local firm Quintiles.

Bracknell Forest mayor councillor Gill Birch was on the starting line to give the go ahead to all 790 runners, who included the Bracknell Forest Standard team made of editor Alison Hepworth, reporters Lorna Catling and Mike Pyle, as well as digital media executive Tom Canning.

Paul Adams of St Alban’s Striders running club was the first to pass the finishing line with a time of one hour, 13 minutes and 49 seconds.

Reading Road Runners' Sarah Gee took the women’s race title with a time of one hour, 22 minutes and 21 seconds.
