Little cheerers will help Miss

By Lorna Catling

A teacher is preparing to switch from marking homework to getting on her marks when she runs the Bracknell half marathon.

Jenny Staunton, 25, is running the 13.1-mile course to raise money for Marie Cure Cancer Care on Sunday, April 27.

She has had to fit her training in around her job as a Year 6 teacher at Birch Hill Primary School in Leppington.

Jenny, who lives in Lower Earley, said: “I have been talking to the children about my training and they really enjoy it.

“Lots of them are really into their sports so they are interested in hearing about it.

“Hopefully some of them will be coming along on the day so I will have a little army of cheerers.”

The Bracknell half marathon will be her first half marathon since she took up running about a year ago.

Since then she has completed a couple of 5km Race for Life runs.

“I really enjoyed the shorter runs so I just thought, ‘why not?’” she added.

“The training has been going well so far. The longest I have done is about eight-and-a-half miles.

“I think I’m going to do a 10-mile run two weeks before the big day and then just do shorter ones until the run.

“I’m not giving myself a certain time to get round, I just want to finish it.”

Jenny is hoping to raise around £100 for Marie Curie Cancer.
