Tax clinic to help Wokingham firms

June 09, 2009

Business owners in Wokingham will be getting a helping hand from a tax clinic aimed at business owners.

Charles Platel solicitors in Shute End is combining tax and legal planning to help people who run their own businesses.

The company is working together with accountancy firm Robert James Partnership for the workshop on Tuesday, June 9.

Lesley Stalker, head of tax at Robert James Partnership, said: “Most business owners are so busy complying with all the red tape they face that they overlook their personal affairs.

“Many don’t have wills, and if they do they usually didn’t seek tax advice beforehand.

“Also, many people have mirror wills, where they pass everything to their wife or husband if they die, but that’s so money inefficient.

“Most business owners don’t realise they are able to pass significant assets down a generation on death with no inheritance tax liability.

“They should plan ahead to limit their tax liabilities when creating a will.”

Appointments should be booked for the clinic and business owners can ask about inheritance tax, will planning and future sales of property.
