An injured swan which lost his partner has been treated and taken back to his home.

Prince, one of the resident swans at North Lake, South Hill Park, lost his partner, Finch, after she swallowed a lead fishing pellet in November last year.

Prince, who was treated for a leg injury at Swan Life in Eton, was showing signs of leaving the lake to find a new mate but has found love closer to home.

Jo Morley, of the South Hill Park Wildlife Protection Group, said: "We are all delighted to welcome the new addition and hope that she and Prince will live long and happy lives together."

The group are now looking to name Prince's new partner and would like readers to make suggestions.

Correct me if I am wrong but having been married to a fisherman for 12 years (now not!), I was under the impression lead was banned years ago in this sport and you now can’t even buy the stuff. Yes, I’m being picky but is this word being used to make the story more horrifying or was it something else that killed the poor swan. I’m not even going down the road of what to call the new female as I just know the name already.

It is a pity that the best nesting site has been destroyed as part of the refurbishment.
