Taxi driver loses his licence

March 15, 2013

A private taxi driver has lost his licence for two weeks after illegally picking up pub revellers and not displaying his badge at all times.

The man, referred to as Mr B at Bracknell Forest Council’s licensing panel, was told he would have to give up his private hire licence from Monday until Sunday, March 24.

Mr B said his explanation for plying for hire was he was waiting in the area as he regularly received requests to pick up passengers in the surrounding area of the public house.

He said he would not have taken a passenger to a destination without them first contacting his operator.

The hearing heard from an enforcement and licensing officer Mr B received penalty points on his private hire driving licence for speeding in September 2010 and July 2011.

He also received points for failure to show a current badge when challenged by police as to why he was plying for hire – touting for trade – near a pub.

The panel, which met on February 14, decided to suspend Mr B’s licence for two weeks given the “seriousness” of how he obtained the points.

When I last lost my license, it turned up a few weeks later down the back of the sofa. I was so relieved!
