1,800 Bracknell children 'missing out on free school meals'

March 15, 2013

Up to 1,800 children in Bracknell whose parents are identified as being on low incomes are missing out on free school meals according to a new report.

The Children’s Society claims 59 per cent of children living in poverty in Bracknell Forest are not getting a free hot meal at school every day.

The charity’s Fair and Square petition aims to force the Government to make free schools meals available to all children in poverty, not just those whose families are on benefits.

Just to get the record straight:

They are already being subsidised to the tune of £2.3million a year for their posh meals and cheap booze – costing taxpayers around £60,000 a week. Rather than ask them to stump up a bit more for their grub, House of Lords bosses want to slash the pay of those who serve them in their exclusive restaurants, bars and cafes.

Waiters, cooks and check-out workers have been told they are set to lose 50% of their overtime cash so the peers’ can continue to enjoy their subsidy.

Good luck with that...They're cutting staff overtime in the bars and eateries in Westminster so MPs don't have to pay a bit extra for their already heavily subsidised meals and drinks. A few thousand hungry children won't worry them. And it'll become even worse in April when more of the cuts swing into action.
