An Olympic torchbearer and town councillor is hoping Bracknell Half Marathon runners get the same amount of support he did.
Cllr Andy Jackson, pictured, who was voted town centre ward councillor in a by-election in November last year, was also nominated to carry the Olympic torch during its tour of Britain before last year’s Olympic games.
He told guests at the Bracknell Forest Voluntary Action lunch on Tuesday, February 26, that he’d like to bring back the same sense of community spirit which flooded across Bracknell during the torch relay last July.
He said: “I’d like to see that many people come out to support Bracknell Half Marathon next month.
“It passes through a fair bit of the town and is a big sporting event.”
The Labour councillor, who works for Kerith Community Church, in Church Road, has been enjoying his first few months representing the community. He said: “Being a councillor fits in with my job and areas of my life merge together.
“I’m currently trying to work with the residents in Mount Lane as they’re concerned with how accessible the town centre is.”
