Cars destroyed in Ascot arson attacks

By Hugh Fort
March 07, 2013

Three cars were set on fire in a spate of suspected arson attacks last night.

Police are appealing for witnesses after three cars were set alight just after 2.30am in Spring Gardens, Ascot, with a fire crew arriving in time to halt a blaze spreading under a Vauxhall Tigra.

The Bracknell crew responded to a call of a single fire in the residential road but arrived to find a Rover 25, a Peugeot 206 and a Vauxhall Tigra alight and neighbours watching in horror.

The incident is being treated as arson.

Watch manager Gary Nash said: "As we arrived one car was completely destroyed, the second was about 75 per cent [on fire] and there was a fire under the rear wheel of the third.

"It hadn't caught properly and we put that one out first before moving on to the others.

"All the residents were out but no-one had seen anything."

Mr Nash added that he had never heard of any other arson attacks in the area.

The firefighters attended the scene for around an hour.

If you have any information which could assist the police with their enquiries ring 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
