Two women have been arrested after a mother and a daughter were hospitalised with burns following a house fire.
Emergency services rushed to a Bracknell Forest Homes property in Whatley Green, Easthampstead, at around 11.30am last Thursday after neighbours reported hearing an ‘explosive bang’.
Desiree Waso, 42, said: “I was working and there was quite a loud bang – an explosive bang. It felt like the ground was shaking.
“It was a bit shocking and there was a lot of screaming. The young girl had been burnt so I called an ambulance.
“Smoke was billowing out of the top window so I asked for the fire brigade too.”
Bracknell and Wokingham firefighters tackled the blaze within half an hour and remained on site until electricity and gas engineers arrived to turn off the power.
Brave builder Stuart Docherty jumped over the garden wall and rescued three dogs from the house.
Self-employed Stuart, 39, from Priestwood, said: “We heard two ladies really screaming so I went round to have a look.
“They were in a panic saying ‘can you please open the back door to save the dogs?’ So I jumped over into next door’s garden and let the dogs out.”
A police spokesman said: “Whatley Green was closed after the fire, and all necessary people were evacuated from the area. Two people were injured in the fire and were taken to Frimley Park Hospital.”
A South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the daughter, in her 20s, suffered burns, the extent of which were not known.
A 57-year-old and 26-year-old woman, both from Bracknell, were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and have been released on bail until April 3 and April 2 respectively.
Linda Wells, Bracknell Forest Homes housing and community services director, said: “We have worked closely with the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, the police and gas engineers to ensure the property is safe.
“We will continue to work with them as they carry out their investigations into the cause of the fire.”
