Suspicious bin fires put out in Bullbrook

By Jon Nurse
February 10, 2013

Two bin blazes within half a mile of each other were put out by firefighters early this morning.

Crews from Bracknell and Wokingham fire stations are treating the causes as suspicious after they dealt with two fires in Bullbrook separated by just 30 minutes.

Wokingham firefighters were sent to a blaze at flats in Deepfield Road at 3.30am before a Bracknell crew put out a fire outside flats in Freeborn Way at around 4am.

Neil Polding, watch manager at Wokingham fire station, said: "When we arrived a green wheelie bin was on fire.

"Bins are stored in a room at the bottom of the block of flats and we had put it out within half an hour.

"The bin itself was destroyed but the fire was contained in the room.

"Our report will say the fire was of doubtful origin as nothing in the incident would suggest it was a deliberate fire other than there was another fire just half an hour prior to it."

This wasnt just a green wheelie bin this was a industrial sized refuse bin which was well lit and to add to this no fire alarms were available in communal areas throughout the whole block to let residents know there was a a fairly serious fire going on,surely this cant be right or even legal? It was only the vigilance of the other residents that the alarm was raised and people were told.
