How your MPs voted - Gay marriage
By Jennie SlevinFebruary 06, 2013
Dr Phillip Lee, MP from Bracknell Forest has registered abstention on a vote to legalise same-sex marriage.
Last night MPs were given a free vote, meaning they were not told which way to vote by party whips, on whether or not couples of the same sex should have the right to get married in civil and religious ceremonies.
Dr Lee and Rob Wilson, Reading East MP, voted both for and against the bill, technically abstaining from the vote.
Gay marriage - why Dr Phillip Lee abstained
Windsor MP Adam Afriyie whose constituency includes some areas of Bracknell, and Wokingham's John Redwood voted against the bill whereas MP for Maidenhead and Home Secretary Theresa May voted for the bill.
MPs voted in favour of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill by 400 to 175, a majority of 225.
The legislation will now be further scrutinised by Parliament.

Lee has constantly proven himself to be an unsuitable MP for Bracknell and I think the time is coming for an Independent OF Bracknell and FOR Bracknell to step forward and show this pathetic excuse the door in 2015.

The way I see things, is that Bracknell is a small town with people who have no time for career politicians, they just want someone who will serve them well.
Bring on the independants. I would certainly like to help someone good campaign.

I'm not going to bother listing all the faults with Lee. Instead on this occasion just a link:

Look at the photo.
Roll on 2015. I hope the whole rotten lot of Tories and Lee in particular get a wakeup call by being shown the door. ANd with one or two exceptions that includes the vast majority in the local Council.

The bill might be of the right sentiment - just that the implementation is diabolical. So OK lets vote for the thing in essence but not in substance? Not sitting on the fence, not not turning up, but a positive statement?
And what of the proponent of the bill? The Prime Minister David Cameron – who was absent? Is that not real sitting on the fence?

So - according to his personal statement - our MP wants to get rid of ALL Civil Marriage and replace it with a Chruch Blessing?
He also think its the CHURCHES job to come up with a solution!
"The easy and, dare I say, less courageous decision would have been to have either stayed away completely or to have blindly followed the majority and voted in the ‘Aye’ lobby"
Mr Lee - the "easy" or "less courageous decision" would have been to do what Adam Afryie did when he diesagreed with the bill VOTE AGAINST.
Personally - i have no isse with the bill - what angers me is the pathetic way you sat on the fence!

"No one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. He would be only too happy to let you make your decisions for yourselves. But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where should we be?"
Sounds like Lee & Camerons world to me.

Sorry, but Steve Baker can't have it both ways - purport to be a socially liberal, modern Conservative (with just a twist of libertarianism) - AND claim some moral high ground where he flip flops on the rights of adult individuals.
We need to get past this hang-up about sexuality. Marriage between a man and woman isn't threatened - surely it's strengthened by making us all equals.
If you vote for the bill you seek to legitimise and equalise ALL relationships, vote against and you are saying that some people are more equal than others. With such a conservative mindset it is sadly possible to see Orwell's quote become reality:
"If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever."

"Marriage (also called matrimony or wedlock) is a social union or legal contract between people called spouses that establishes rights and obligations between the spouses, between the spouses and their children, and between the spouses and their in-laws.[1] The definition of marriage varies according to different cultures, but it is principally an institution in which interpersonal relationships, usually intimate and sexual, are acknowledged. When defined broadly, marriage is considered a cultural universal."
Bet you're all glad we didn't get Iain Dale as MP now?
