Photo burning sparks roof fire fears

By Becky Barnes
January 28, 2013

A neighbour called 999 and reported a roof fire when he saw dark smoke rising from a home in Hanworth this afternoon.

When fire crews arrived at the semi-detached home in Brunswick at just after 2pm today, the man informed firefighters his neighbours had revealed the smoke was a result of them burning photographs in their fireplace.

Bracknell watch manager Michael Fulwell said: "When he knocked on their door to raise the alarm his neighbours said they were burning the photographs.

"We would much rather people made these calls than ignore smoke, but luckily it turned out to be a false alarm this time."

A crew from Wokingham were also called to the scene but turned back after Bracknell station confirmed it was a false alarm.
