Almost 70 million people went off on their holidays from Heathrow airport last year - the highest ever figure for a calendar year.
The busy airport saw 5.6 million people pass through in December which is also a record.
one of the most popular destinations was Brazil, with a 21 per cent increase in the number of flights, which is partly due to the airport offering more flights.
Other popular destinations were the Middle East and centra Asia.
The airport also saw a drop in people travelling to European countries like Itals, Greece and Portugal, which could be due to the economic turmoil in those countries.
However, the number of Trips to France and Germany increased.
Airport chief executive Colin Matthews said:“The figures for 2012 show Heathrow is delivering higher passenger numbers despite a tough economic climate. At the same time passenger satisfaction reached record levels. Over the next twelve months we will continue to improve the passenger experience and focus on our investment programme, as we move towards completion of the new Terminal 2.”
