Bracknell and Wokingham are bracing themselves is bracing itself for freezing conditions with temperatures expected to plummet over the weekend.

The Met Office has forecast the minimum temperature will fall from 2°C on Friday to -3°C by Sunday and into Monday.

The reason is an atmospheric phenomenon known as sudden stratospheric warming which disrupts the air flows in the upper atmosphere allowing colder air to sweep across Britain.

Today is expected to be cloudy with light rain expected on Saturday while Sunday will start overcast and get brighter during the morning.

It is uncertain how long the cold weather will stay and exactly which areas of the UK will see snow.

Chief forecaster Paul Gundersen said: “All parts of the UK will see cold weather.

“With a battle developing between the cold air in the east and mild air pushing in from the west, no one should be surprised to see sleet or snow over the weekend and next week.”
