New parking system at The Peel Centre

By Becky Barnes
January 09, 2013

A new parking system came into force at The Peel Centre this week but drivers are currently unable to fully use it.

A sign at the entrance to the 850-space car park in Skimped Hill Lane, where barriers have been removed, tells car park users they no longer need a ticket.

Instead they must memorise their number plate and are given two options: to pay at the machine before people return to their vehicle or pay online, which promises "no more queueing".

The new system is camera controlled and when drivers input their number plate they will be told how much they owe.

But people who have tried to pay online at www.veripark.co.uk have found the online payment system is currently down.

A spokesman for car park managers Euro Parks confirmed drivers can only pay by coins or notes at The Peel Centre due to delays in the payment pal system.

He added this was not a failing of either management and the system would be fully operational within ten working days.

When the online system is up and working drivers will be able to pay online up to 11.59pm the day after parking.

Shoppers still get two hours free parking and Point Centre customers get three.

The charge for two to three hours parking remains at £1.50, three to four hours is £2.50 and over four hours up to 6.59am the following day is £10.

There are no discounts, concessions or exemptions for Blue Badge holders at The Peel Centre.

For further information visit www.veripark.co.uk.

They can not give u a penalty notice.

Only the police etc can, ignore any such notice as they not , that's right not enforceable in court as euro car parks do not own the land

I visited the cinema yesterday. It was poring with rain when we left, so I decided to pay online. The option to register has been down all evening. I eventually decided to call and selected Option 2 for payments. A recorded voice told me to call back on the asked number during office hours. I called back and selected Option 3 to speak to an Operator. I spoke to a very nice cap who advised that he could only help with emergencies. I now have to cll the again on Monday, again at my expense, to ensure I will not receive a penalty notice. I think I will just drive the extra 10 minutes to the Showcase from now on...

TomJ - the customers from The Point scan their receipt at the payment machines to add the extra hour...

I tried to register and log in to their system today but the system failed. I have wasted my time with a system that just isn't ready for customers. If they try to fine me I will see them in court. Nobody pay - they won't have a leg to stand on in court.

Has anybody else clicked on the link for Veripark to get more information?

All you will get is:

Error The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later.

Error message PDOException: SQLSTATE[HY000] [1040] Too many connections in lock_may_be_available() (line 167 of /var/websites/vp_central/includes/lock.inc).. .

How telling is that? Also very true about longer films. Seems Bracknell cinema viewers could be penalised. Is this going to be the same for Cineworld?

Bracknell may well end up a Ghost Town at this rate..... reminds me of a song.

One wonders how it's determined whether or not the car contains people visiting The Point Centre (for instance Frankie and Benny's) verses Halfords or Morrisons.

I agree with M Smith - Camberley becomes the location of choice now that the town center is degrading for the refurbishment.

Oh well...

3 hours is not long enough for Point Centre customers who are watching a film that is 2hr 45min with 30min of adverts beforehand..

It's a poor system, as you could easily leave the carpark unaware of how much you owe, until you get a fine in the post for £70 - isn't ANPR a dream for the DVLA/ECP?

The DVLA get to sell ECP your home address details linked to your numberlpate so ECP can chase you. And ECP get to chase you through the courts, for a computer generated report saying you over-stayed by 5min.

Camberley is now the better choice for me.

No more queuing? Except the endless queue around the car park looking for a space, which is too small to cater for the shops now.

I'm always struck by this notion of 'progress' and change for the sake of it - why was pay & display never good enough? No barriers to constantly breakdown, payment is made on the spot and at time of use, and it ensures the majority of motorists return with a given time frame.

This sounds like a pointless and muddled attempt at using a congestion charge style payment method on a budget. Did they buy this system from Pound land?

Spot on Tom - why is it deemed shameful to hold your hands up to a problem, mistake, or error? Surely it's a failure if you don't?

The system doesnt work as it should, something has gone wrong .... yet clearly its not a failing on either management.

Of course its a failing! why dont people sometimes just say "yup, its our fault, something hasn't gone right we're sorry and are trying to fix it" ........
