Dr Phillip Lee working with CAMRA to fight repeated beer tax rises

December 27, 2012

Dr Phillip Lee has joined the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) to discuss the aim of ending the continuous tax rises for beer.

The Bracknell Forest MP met with three local CAMRA members in the Houses of Parliament to question them about how pubs are staying open during a financially difficult time.

Dr Lee commented: “As a massive supporter of real ale and local pubs, it was a delight to meet with Nick, Raymond and David to discuss CAMRA’s campaign.

"I aim to visit at least one pub in the constituency every month.

"It is tough, but figures published by CAMRA indicate that pub closures have dropped by 70% this year, which is excellent news. "Our local pubs community centres, providing a place to socialise with friends, relax in a comfortable environment, and, yes, enjoy a quiet drink.

"Just as importantly, though, they are vital to our local economy, providing roughly 1500 jobs in the constituency and adding around £32 million to our local economy. T

"That is why I support the campaign’s call to end the Beer Duty Escalator.”

Philip Lee MP is going to encourage people to drink more beer, then suggest charging them for their alcohol related illnesses further down the line. What a way to bring revenue to the NHS!

Is Olds Oak the final standing voice of support for Dr. Lee?

Seems he/she is the only person who ever lends any support these days. Is Olds Oak actually Dr Lee or as has been suggested before either the Chairman or other leading light on the local Conservative Association?

Reading the comments generally seen on this forum (both in this story and many others) it strikes me that Dr Who, Dr Doolittle or the muppet does nothing for the area, apart from spew rhetoric which nobody is really interested in. Or, he is pulling pints which is perhaps something he does more of than either practice as a GP or work as an MP!

The rest of the time its an expenses fuelled jolly whilst pretending to be the aforementioned GP or MP. Neither of which (GP/MP_ he seems to really practice in Bracknel whereas publican? Does he own shares in a brewery or something?

Please, please, please the electorate of Bracknell. In 2015 show how we feel and vote this non-entity into non-existence.

Does an escalator run continually or continuously?

As a visitor to the Queen's Oak I also get carried away with the "Queen's English". One often gets to a stage that how a point is made one does not care. The wonders of Real Ale?

PoneRane why introduce the Dalek's? From my memory of the cult of Skaro it was: Thay, Jast, Caan, and Sec the black one. Please try and make sense? If one assumes that you meant incidentally, the sentence still does not make grammatical sense!

However, we can't expect people who spend so much time visiting newspaper articles to write the Queen's English.

I am all for regulated drinking - Drinking in a pub that is. Drinking at home alone is not good. Extra tax will not affect the minority who cause the problems.

If it was cheaper to drink in regulated premises, then perhaps people would fill up at the pub, and then have a topping off at home; instead of filling up on cheap booze at home, and then topping up at the pub/club.

I aim to beat that record and will visit at least one pub in the constituency every day. Happy New Pickled Year everyone!

If minimum pricing for alcohol was introduced the extra VAT paid by those currently selling cheap alcohol would make any further rise in the tax on beer un-necessary.

Incidently while the rises in tax may currently be continual thay certainly are not continuous. However we can't expect an MP who spends so much time visiting pubs to speak the Queen's English.
