Horses died after suspected drink drive crash

Two horseriders had to be airlifted to hospital after a car collided with a group of horses.

The riders were taken to hospital with a number of suspected fractures after colliding with a black Audi A4.

The incident, which involved three horses and their riders, happened at 2.50pm on Saturday in Hatchet Lane, Winkfield.

The driver from the Winkfield area, produced a positive blood alcohol reading and was arrested for drink driving and driving without due care and attention, he has been bailed until Tuesday, January 22.

Two of the horses were badly injured and had to be put down at the scene.

Fire crews called out to the incident, including the Special Animal Unit from Caversham Road, Reading, but they were told to stand down before they arrived.
