December 06, 2012
A Reading man was jailed for 28 months for burglary and handling stolen goods from across Berkshire.
Daniel Derriman, aged 36, from Gas Cottages in Kennetside was found guilty at Reading Crown Court on Thursday after a three-day trial of one count of burglary and six of handling stolen goods.
He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for burglary and 16 months for the handling offences. The sentences will be served consecutively.
Derriman burgled a house in St Bartholemews Road, East Reading by forcing a rear door on March 4 this year with his brother Mark who admitted the offence at an earlier hearing.
They stole jewellery and electrical items valued at approximately £1,500.
The six handling stolen goods charges were as follows:
* tools valued at £1,200 stolen from the Wyevale Garden centre, Hare Hatch on February 18
* a television stolen in a burglary in Reading Road, Woodley on February 9
* a television, mobile phone and DVDs stolen in a burglary in Hanwood Close, Woodley on January 9
* jewellery worth £305 stolen in a burglary in Cholmeley Road, East Reading on Christmas Day last year
* electrical items tolen in a burglary in Atte Lane, Warfield on December 16 last year
* DVDs and a mobile phone of an unknown value stolen in a burglary in Bartholemew Place, Warfield on December 10 last year.
Derriman was arrested on March 5 following a search at his home where the stolen property was found.
Shoe marks found at the burglary also matched those of Derriman.
PC Chris Susel said: "I am pleased with the sentence handed out to Derriman, which are a result of a lengthy investigation into his criminality.
"I trust the sentences will be a deterrent to others and show them that offences of this kind will be not be tolerated in the local community."
