OK, I accept your point on that, but that's not my child so I'm not bothered to be honest. There are parents who let their kids run riot til god knows what time, that's their choice - personally I think it's the wrong choice but who are we to tell them otherwise?

@T4T, I don't shop at Sainsburys so don't care about the cost, and I don't have a toddler anymore... Some people work until 5:30 and then have a 45 minute - 1 hour commute home to then pick their children up from a childminder. They may not wish to shop on weekends due to the fact it's busy, and it would be a waste of a daytime when they could be taking them somewhere - so a quick half hour of an evening doesn't hurt. Also, where the hell are you getting your 14 hours of sleep 'fact' from?! hahaha I have never heard of any kids falling asleep at my childs school, ever - another made up 'fact' to prove your point? I think so. And no, you couldn't be more wrong in your assumption!

Bruce Wayne, Why would you subject small children to cold dark evenings to go shopping. I guess you don't mind paying more for your groceries to pay for the extra lighting.

I rarely see toddlers in the supermarket after 6pm and those that are there, are usually screaming their heads off annoying other customers. Toddlers need around 14 hrs sleep a day and sleep is best during hours of darkness. Most toddlers I know are in bed around 6.30-7pm. Primary age children should be in bed by 7.30pm. There are too many 5-7 year olds falling asleep in the classroom.

I suspect that you're one of the families that let their five year olds run around in the street nine o'clock in the evening while the parents sit indoors watch TV.

@Time4tea, whilst I agree that there are too many disabled spaces (in all car parks in the country) to say that all small children should be in bed by 6pm is absurd, your kids must hate you (assuming you have any). Babies can sleep anywhere, so their parents can go shopping whenever they want really. Every toddler I know has a bed time of around 7:30 / 8 pm, so still plenty of time for shopping post 6pm.

What they need to do, and a cheaper & more obvious solution, is improve lighting in the car park!

I knew this would one day happen, lone women forced to walk across badly lit dark car park in the evening due to all the spaces near the store being for the use of parent and child. Surely not many of these spaces are needed after 6pm (small children should be in bed) and could be made available to everyone. Same with disabled spaces which are rarely parked in during the evening, just a few should be enough for working disabled customers who wish to shop in the evening.
