Dad rescues tot from burning car near Twin Bridges

By Becky Barnes
December 03, 2012

A dad rescued his two-year-old son from a burning car when it caught fire this morning.

The man was driving in Mill Lane towards the Twin Bridges roundabout when he stopped at a red light immediately in front of the bridge at just after 9am.

His beige Jaguar Diesel is then reported to have completely stopped and a passer-by 'frantically' signalled to him there were flames under the vehicle.

Bracknell fire station's watch manager Michael Fulwell, who attended the scene, said there was only a small amount of fire but the man rushed to save his two-year-old tot who was in the back of the car.

The fire crew and police attended the scene at around 9.20am.

Watch manager Fulwell added there was a small fire under the bonnet and melted plastic dripped down on to the road and went up in flames.

Firefighters popped the bonnet from the inside and made the car safe.

They attended the scene for around 15 minutes.

I bet his son wasn't the only one who needed his undergarments changing after that! Fair play to him, the sort of close call no-one wants to have...
