Firefighters warn motorists not to drive in flood water

By Hugh Fort
November 26, 2012

Firefighters are continuing to warn drivers not to drive through flood water after rescuing three drivers in Berkshire in the last 24 hours.

Crews had to rescue a car stuck in eight inches of water in Newbury yesterday, as well as a couple who were trapped in their car in Mortimer, near Reading, after floodwater came over the bonnet.

A mum and her baby were also rescued from Sandford Lane in Woodley this morning.

Station Master Jess James, of Caversham Road Station, said: "We have not had any tragedies yet but we are still seeing people

attempting to drive through floods when they have no idea how deep the water is.

“Our advice is that people do not attempt to drive through floods. Even if they have to take an alternative route, it is much safer to do so, rather than risk losing their car or even their life.

"Only drive if your journey is really necessary and be praped to take longer to egt to your destination.”
