Union J scrape through X Factor sing off

Boy band Union J are one step closer to winning X Factor after they were voted through to next weekend's semi finals last night.

But Josh Cuthbert, 20, from Winkfield and his band just scraped through after they landed in the bottom two alongside flamboyant Essex boy Rylan Clark.

Saturday's live show saw the foursome sing two songs for the Abba/Motown theme - they picked Abba's 'The Winner Takes It All' and sang a cover of Jackson 5's 'I'll be there'.

Judge Gary Barlow said he thought the band had missed an opportunity to shine with the Motown theme and said there were better songs they could have chosen, as boy bands were born in that era.

Josh tweeted after the show appealing for votes and said: "Please remember that nobody is safe your vote can save us! #voteandsaveunionj."

Last night the boys were second to perform for the sing off after Rylan sang a cover of 'Wires' by Athlete.

The band followed with a flawless cover of Snow Patrol's 'Run' which won over the judges and saw them voted through by Louis Walsh, Gary and Tulisa.

After the show Josh, whose Twitter is ‏@JoshyUnionJ, tweeted: "such a horrible feeling :( gona miss Rylan! x." (sic)
