People urged to support 20mph petition
By Becky BarnesNovember 22, 2012
People are being urged to support a campaign for 20mph speed limits in Bracknell.
Bracknell MP Phillip Lee is calling on people to sign a petition to ‘GO 20’ as part of Road Safety Week which started on Monday.
Road safety charity Brake, alongside the GO 20 coalition, is appealing for drivers to slow down to 20mph around homes, schools and shops.
The Government is also calling for 20mph limits across built-up areas, so children and adults can feel safe when they walk and cycle for their health and enjoyment.
Dr Lee said: “I welcome the GO 20 campaign. Reducing speeds in Bracknell constituency would reduce casualties.
“Research shows that for each 1mph speed reduction, casualties decrease by five per cent and fewer crashes reduces the burden on the NHS, emergency services and our local economy.”
To sign the petition visit go20.org.

Also, there are many crossings and underpasses in Bracknell that people seem too lazy to use. Rather than walk a few extra feet to a safe place to cross the road, they cross wherever they feel like.

If what he says is correct by reducing a speed limit from 50 mph to 30 mph there would 100% less (ie no) chance of accidents.
Good idea to reduce speed limits around schools but sometimes pedestrians and cyclists ( and I'm both) have to accept resposibility for their own stupidity eg cycling or walking with ear phones listening to music or talking on the phone!!
