A sick horse in Binfield died yesterday despite the attempts of experts from fire crews around Berkshire.
A team from Bracknell fire station were called to the stables near the Binfield Park estate at 2.30pm to assist the specialist animal rescue team from Caversham Road in Reading.
The horse had been unwell since the day before and, although being treated by vets, was unable to get up.
The team from Bracknell was called to help move the heavy animal but left it with the animal rescue service and the vets at around 6pm.
Caversham Road Fire Fighter Carl Abram, who also works in the Animal Rescue team, said they tried their hardest to save the animal.
He said: "We tried several times to get the animal to stand up and managed to roll the horse into the position to stand but unfortunately it had given up.
"After a while the vet took the decision to put the horse down which was obviously very upsetting for the owners."
