Town centre regeneration drilling work to start

By Julie Spencer
November 19, 2012

Bore holes are to be drilled at locations across the centre of Bracknell to prepare the way for the town centre regeneration.

Soil samples will be collected and the structure of the ground will be assessed over the next couple of months in a geotechnical survey of the area.

Bracknell Regneration Partnership said the work was crucial to help it understand the structure of the soil and rocks beneath the town centre.

Helen Barnett, marketing manager for BRP, said: “This is an important preparation step that must be carried out before any demolition or construction work commences.

“We will be endeavouring to keep disruption to a minimum and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration, said: “Geotechnical surveying is vital for planning the construction of the buildings for Bracknell’s new town centre.

“It is another practical sign the regeneration is getting closer and the council and BRP are committed to making it happen.”

CMK - Not really. Very common on all construction projects. You decide what you want to do, then test the ground to see how you're going to do it - what type of piles/foundations you're actually going to use that will support the building above.

Surely this is the first thing you do, before ever submitting plans?

Once again, his Honourable Magnificence, The Grand Vizier of Chaucer Wood, Timothy Jefferies speaks truth to power.

It's all Nang.

Goldfish - that would have been the old scheme. The one that proposd dumping BlueWater MkII on Bracknell with thousands of shops and thousands of 1 bedroom flats above it ......

Of course the underlying message here is that wonderful Crowthorne does not and will never need a regeneration plan.Simply as all the good people within have not let our magnificent Village become degenerated in the first instance. Learn from our success Bracknell. Learn from our success.
Timothy Jefferies, Mayor Of Crowthorne.

This was also done several years ago, and look what's happened to the regeneration since.

Actually Winstanley ... consider this ... if they didn’t know for sure that it would happen .. why waste money on digging holes?? I'm trying not to get optimistic but after sooooooo long, it does perhaps start so sound like Barnett and Brunel-Walker might actually get something started!

But I could be wrong .... at the very least, it does seem more likely than Wokingham’s "Regeneration" plan.

One has to ask why these surveys weren't conducted prior to promising us a regeneration? Prior to planning applications, and design process?

This seems to be more of the usual - say something, do something while actually doing nothing.

Come on 2015 - local and general election on the same day and hopefully we'll kick out the Tory wasters that have overseen the terminal decline of our town.

Wow... I don't want to be too optimistic, but it really seems something is finally happening in the Bracknell regeneration?! Good stuff!
