Mum appeals for return of locket

November 09, 2012

A woman devastated over the loss of a locket bearing pictures of her daughter and late son-in-law is appealing for its safe return.

Maria Povey, of Whitley Wood, realised the necklace was no longer around her neck as she ran a bath after a morning out on Sunday.

She had been to Blackbushe Market in Blackwater, shopping in Central Reading and then to Henley cemetery and the Traveller’s Rest in Henley Road, Caversham, for lunch.

She realises the locket could have dropped at any point over miles, but she is desperate for its return because of its poignant sentimental value.

Pictures of Mrs Povey’s daughter, Zoe Whitehouse, and her husband Spencer as they renewed their wedding vows on April 20 are inside the locket.

Spencer died on May 10 after a long illness.

The locket is gold, with a rose and ‘Mum’ on the front.

The back is inscribed with: “A mother’s precious gift is love”.

Mrs Povey said: “I had already put it on a thicker chain I have worn for years because it is so special.

“I have been in floods of tears and am only just able to talk about it.”

Anyone who finds the locket or has any information should contact the Reading Post newsdesk on (0118) 918 3020.

Hope someone is honest enough to return it though doubt it.

Look, the three people who have commented are probably fully grown adults, so stop acting like 13 year old girls and being so mean and rude. There is no need for it, at no point did she say it is 9k and at no point did she say it was expensive but it means a lot to her, it's a shame that you obviously have nothing you care about or anyone who cares about you to understand how this woman must be feeling. Stop spending your lives on here being insensitive and go get a job; or Atleast get a heart!
