President Obama’s stepmother Kezia was ‘absolutely delighted, but very tired’ after staying up all night at her Bracknell home to see her stepson re-elected to the White House.
The 69-year-old was glued to the television all night on Tuesday and woke her former son-in-law Ian Manners early on Wednesday with the news Barack Obama had won a second term.
Ian, who was married to the president’s half-sister Auma, said: “I went to bed but she phoned at 6.30am and woke me up.
“Everybody is delighted, Kezia is absolutely delighted but now very tired. She has been on the phone to the family in America and in Kenya.”
Kezia, the first wife of the president’s father, lives in Bullbrook and received VIP treatment when she flew out to attend Obama’s first inauguration in 2009.
Ian said Kezia and his 15-year-old daughter Akinyi, Mr Obama’s niece, hoped to attend the ceremony in January.
Ian hopes to publish a book, Our Brother, The President, next year.
