Police dispel Facebook white van rumour

Rumours spreading on Facebook about a white van being driven around schools have been dispelled by Thames Valley Police.

Police say there is no cause for concern after they were informed rumours were being posted on the social networking site about a suspicious vehicle in Banbury, Oxfordshire.

Police wanted to reassure people that any incidents reported would be fully investigated and there is no cause for concern.

Insp Dave Hibbert, neighbourhood inspector in Banbury said: “I would like to reassure the community that we will take any reports of this nature extremely seriously.

“These types of incidents are rare but we will investigate any reports immediately. However, I can confirm there have been no incidents or intelligence where a white van has been driving around schools.

“The local Neighbourhood Teams regularly patrol their areas and will continue to do so. Cherwell is one of the safest places to live in the country and all of the officers who cover the area, neighbourhood teams, Local CID and Patrol officers continually strive to keep it that way.

“We regularly go into schools to give talks about such things as Stranger Danger, which is pitched at the appropriate level for the age of the children and we will continue to do this.

“I would like to use this opportunity to continue to remind parents and guardians how important it is to remind children of the dangers associated with talking to strangers.”

Anyone with concerns can contact 101.
