Emergency drop-in while drug treatment centre moves

By Becky Barnes
October 31, 2012

A drug and alcohol treatment centre is expected to be closed for at least five days while it moves premises.

An emergency drop-in will be available from the SMART mobile unit in service yard A in the town centre while New Hope moves from Broadway to 16/17 Market Street.

The centre will close at 8pm on Tuesday, November 6, and is expected to open on Monday, November 12.

Jillian Hunt, Bracknell Forest Council's drugs and alcohol team (DAAT) co-ordinator, said: "We have been based in the Broadway since we started in 2005.

"It will be quite sad to move out of the building but we must make room for the town centre regeneration and we need better premises so we can continue to improve and expand our services.

"We've had a lot of support from officers and councillors at Bracknell Forest Council to find the new premises and a lot of work has been done to refurbish them."

Cllr Dale Birch, executive member for adult services, health and housing, said: "This move is good news for the people who use the services at New Hope.

"The building in Market Street offers better space so we can offer services which focus on people becoming drug and alcohol free, finding employment, reducing their offending behaviour and becoming valuable members of the community.”
