Credit card fault means cash only at the Look Out

By Becky Barnes

Controversial parking charges at The Look Out Discovery Centre have met another obstacle after a fault means machines will only accept cash.

Credit cards ceased to be accepted in the week beginning September 24. Matt Bugg, from Bracknell, said his wife was unable to pay on card via her mobile phone on two occasions.

Opposition to Look Out parking charges

He said: “The Look Out reception told her it was due to a lack of Vodafone signal. The first time parking attendants let us off but the second she managed to pay with cash with the help of staff.”

Furious families to boycott the Look Out and Coral Reef

Vincent Paliczka, Bracknell Forest Council’s director for environment, culture and communities, said: “Credit card services stopped working in the second week of operation due to a fault in the local GPRS antenna. The antenna is now working but for reasons as yet unknown we have been unable to recommence processing credit card transactions. While providing alternative credit card payment methods for parking is impractical, staff at The Look Out are doing what they can to provide extra change when the centre is open.”

Of course they dont they are dependant on the transmitters as much as you or I - but to allow this to go on, when the transmitters are working fine, for a month is madness

Total incompetence! What if a business lost their credit card machon for month ... they wouldn#t have a business. No-one in the private sector would stand for this ... but it seems acceptable for the Borough to throw their hands in the air and blame everyone else
