A driver died after his car was struck by a falling tree near Ascot Racecourse.

Michael Warren, 64, of South Anston near Sheffield, was driving with his wife in Windsor Road at around 2.45pm on Friday when a tree fell on their grey Ford Mondeo and a blue Mini.

Mr Warren and his wife were taken to Wexham Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at around 5pm.

He wife suffered injuries which were not believed to be serious.

A woman who was trapped in the Mini was taken to Frimley Park Hospital after being freed by firefighters. Her condition was not thought to be life-threatening.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident and Bracknell Forest Council is looking into whether the tree was on private or council land.

An air ambulance and firefighters from Windsor, Bracknell and Slough fire stations were at the scene for around an hour.

A number of roads were closed into the evening, including the Windsor Road junction with Winkfield Road and the junction with the Peanut roundabout.

Bracknell Forest Council arranged for the tree to be removed from the street that evening.
