Ranelagh uniform stockist Jacksons could close

Ranelagh uniform stockists Jacksons of Reading may be shutting up shop.

The 137-year-old department store is rumoured to be going on the market later this month.

Commercial property insiders this week told the Bracknell Forest Standard’s sister paper, the Reading Post, that the landmark building would be put up for sale in October.

Edward Jackson opened his first shop in Reading in 1875 and at one time had a branch in Bracknell.

Brian Carter, managing director and great-grandson of the founder, would not confirm the rumour but said they were ‘constantly having to patch the place up’.

He added: “I’m not ruling out the possibility. Everything is on the table.”

Ranelagh, a Church of England Academy, in Ranelagh Drive, Bracknell, is one of dozens of school uniforms stocked by the store.
