New Jolly Farmer landlords welcomed special guest Dr Phillip Lee

By Julie Spencer
October 02, 2012

The new landlords at The Jolly Farmer in Sandhurst took a welcome break as they let MP Dr Phillip Lee pull the pints on a busy Friday night.

Dr Lee spent more than an hour serving customers at the pub in Yorktown Road, College Town, which was taken over six weeks ago by Stephen and Hayley Boswell.

Stephen, who is a former soldier, said: “He had a bit of banter with the customers and spent more than an hour behind the bar. He was enjoying himself.”

Dr Lee visited the pub on Friday as part of his campaign to highlight the importance of pubs in communities.

Stephen, who was formerly landlord of The Wheatsheaf in Basingstoke, added: “This pub had a reputation for trouble but since we have been here a lot of the original customers have been coming back.

“I am ex-Army and we want to get the soldiers in here from Sandhurst.

“We will be organising some charity events for Help for Heroes soon and we are doing up the kitchen now and should be serving food in about four weeks.”

   Winstanley, whatever do you mean?

CMK - glad you agree.

About time this supposed MP actually did something the constituency would actually benefit from. And I don't think his "toytown" hospital or holding public forums in Marlow will count towards what Bracknell needs.

One could speculate that our MP knows how to pull a few things...aside from pints.

One of them ain't the fairer sex!

Neal my thoughts exactly - he has enough pics of pulling pints for his CV :)

Good news if it does improve.

The standard of the pub needs raising considerably. lets hope they get rid of the current clientele and become a proper community pub...but i have heard all this before so will wait and see. Also why is the "for lease" sign still outside if they have found new landlords?

Hope the new landlord improves its reputation...its fairly dire at the moment with a succession of landlords promising to change it. Would be nice to have a decent pub in College Town...however unless they change the current clientele dramatically they have no hope.

At least we know Lee has an option to fall back on when he loses his seat!

This is clearly Phillip's 'Man Of The People' schtick. A bit tired by now....

You're not one of us, you're a public sector leech.
