UK'S biggest film company Cineworld to open 12-screen cinema in Bracknell

By Hugh Fort
September 26, 2012

The UK's biggest film company will open a new 12-screen cinema in Bracknell town centre in a retail area boasting shops and restaurant.

In the last half an hour, Bracknell Regeneration Partnership has announced Cineworld will open a new cinema with the latest 3D technology.

The company has named a number of new sites today and CEO Steve Weiner said he was delighted to be bringing the cinema into Bracknell on land close to the new Waitrose store in Bond Way.

He said: "Naming additional sites today, including Bracknell, shows the strength of our pipeline. We are delighted to partner with Bracknell Regeneration Partnership in recognition of our qualities as a development partner and look forward to demonstrating the footfall we drive to sites even in difficult times.”

For more see tomorrow's Bracknell Forest Standard.

This is indeed a very good news towards Bracknell's regeneration. I moved in to Bracknell in 2003 and in last 9 years, the only major visible change was Waitrose. Hope Cineworld and associated small businesses and eating places will re-shape Bracknell. BTW, one question to the council - when will you get rid of the old 3M building?

I think this is great news. Cineworld allow you to pay £15.00 or so a month and for that you can view as many films as you like!

The Odeon is a little tired now and a rival may well lead to its eventual closure. Perhaps I am in the minority, but I do visit the Odean at least once a month. I agree that ts generally empty, but I don't think that can just be down to the cinema though. Many people like to combine a evening at the cinema with a coffee, a drink or a meal and that is something that Bracknell cannot really offer at the moment. Pizza Hut, Frankie and Benny's or the Bowling Alley cafe simply don't appeal to everyone.

I am as sceptical as the next person as to whether the town centre redevelopment will ever get of the ground, but as they appear to has signed contacts, I am hoping that it truely is now a case of when, rather than if.

A cinema would be no where near my list of priorities for the so called town centre, but I guess anything's better than nothing. I'm surprised the BRP didn't oppose the planning application though, as they seem to for anything else that isn't on "their" patch. After all the drivel that's regularly trotted out about new developments, I'm very sceptical about this ~ I'll believe it if it ever happens. That artist's impression up there is way off the mark. Where did all those people come from? They can't be Bracknellians ~ they don't look obese and the cigs and Special Brew cans have been omitted.

Don't disagree that the Cinema is far to expensive. My gripe is partly to do with that, the last few times I have been to the cinema it's been pretty empty.

Is there really demand for another one? I just wish there was as much concrete evidence around the rest of the town.

Winchester House has all gone quiet again. As has everything else as usual. Supposedly the bulldozers arrive by the end of the year but I won't hold my breath.

Here's an idea for it combining two arguments.. turn the side of Winchester House into a giant Cinema screen. How cool would that be??!

Be great if it's cheaper than Odeon, going to the cinema is stupidly expensive, even on an orange wednesday!

I'd guess what'll happen is the new cinema will be built, leading to the Odeon closing, as is the way with these things.

However, if the new town centre is going then it should be easy to attract something good into the space where Odeon was, likewise with all the shops which close?

IF the new town is built, demand SHOULD be much higher for any units which become available?

Megaman didn't mean to sound negative but just don't want to see one part of Bracknell being regenerated at the cost of what is already here being neglected.

Besides no time scale given - so could take another five years anyway

The new cinema will be miles better than the new one, are you also advocating giving the town centre a lick of paint rather than rebuilding it?

@MegaMan It's not that we don't want new stuff, it's just I'm not sure another Cinema is anywhere near the top of anyone's priorities.

How much does the current one get used? Why not just refurb it if that is the issue.

   Two things:

1) Please, please, let it be on the Winchester House site.

2) Don't let Helen Barnett, Brunel-Walker, or Phillip Lee near it or it'll never happen.

Ok, so people in Bracknell endlessly moan about not having any news on the town centre regen.

Now some news comes, and in fact, it's better to keep the mouldy old cinema than have a brand spanking new one with somewhere to go dinner afterwards.

Just hope that if odeon goes it doesn't have a knock on affect with trade being affected for F and Bs and the Bowling Alley
