An observant neighbour alerted firefighters after he heard an alarm going off in Great Hollands.
A crew from Bracknell fire station was called to Viking at around 1.45am after a man called to say he thought he could hear a smoke detector going off in an elderly lady's home.
Crew manager Tony Cooper said: "He called us then smashed the door down and cut his hand on the glass doing so."
Engineers were called to the property to check for gas leaks but couldn't find anything.
The lady was fine after being checked over paramedics at the scene.
Firefighters spent an hour-and-a-half at the property but believe it to be a false alarm.
