Uncertain future for Edgbarrow Sports CentreBy Julie Spencer

The future of Edgbarrow Sports Centre is being reviewed after Crowthorne Parish Council decided its ratepayers were not getting value for money.
The parish’s funding for the centre during 2012/13 increased to £22,280 – an average cost per village household of £8.52, although income and running costs are down.
The previous year, the parish made a contribution of £21,140 to the centre.
Councillors decided that as 60 per cent of members were from outside Crowthorne, future funding needed to be investigated.
A working group, which includes the parish council, has been set up to look at the future ownership and management of the Grant Road centre, what facilities should be offered and where and how much funding it should receive from parish councils.
At a meeting of Crowthorne parish last Tuesday members agreed to take part in the review of the centre’s future.
If the group agrees the centre should continue, it will work out an ‘acceptable and equitable’ level of contribution from the parish and from Bracknell Forest Council towards its running costs.
The group will also work out a method of calculating annual increases that reflect the true cost of running the centre.
