An aspiring actress made her TV debut when she starred alongside Martin Clunes in a gripping drama this week.
Ellie Bamber, 15, of Dukes Ride, Crowthorne, played Clune’s 13-year-old step-daughter Livvy in two-part drama A Mother’s Son which aired on ITV1 on Monday and Tuesday.
Ellie, a pupil at Hawley Place School, Farnborough, said: “I had so much fun working on it – Martin is the funniest guy ever. There was a scene when I was trying to cry and he kept cracking jokes – I said this really isn’t helping.”
The youngster filmed the drama, which sees the murder of a teenager threaten to destroy a family, in June and featured mainly in the first episode alongside Clunes and Hermione Norris.
She said: “It was weird seeing myself on television but it is what I have wanted to do for ages. Martin and Hermione are so talented and I learnt so much.”
Ellie is a student at JJB Drama Studios, Bracknell, and has recently had call-back auditions for several films and television programmes.
Proud mum Zoe said: “Ellie is very focussed on making this her career and has an agent.
“Jenny Brown of JJB drama studios really encouraged her and helped her get on the map.”
Mrs Bamber said when she chaperoned her to the read-through for A Mother’s Son, it was so moving that a lot of the people there were in tears.
Ellie said: “It is really emotional and very intense – it is about two families and my mum [Hermione Norris] finds blood under my brother’s bed and suspects him of murder.
“It wasn’t too bad though, we just had loads of fun on set.”
This was Ellie’s TV debut but she played alongside Sir Trevor Nunn in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Aspects of Love at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
She was chosen as the young performer in the role for opening review week, press night, gala night and the closing weekend performances, with her performance gaining rave reviews.
She also played the role of Gertrude in Seussical, Mullins in Peter Pan and Lucy in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe at South Hill Park.
Ellie said she would love to work with ‘anyone’.
But she said: “After seeing Sheridan Smith in Legally Blonde she has been my idol – I would love work with her.”
