Hunt for thief after chase in Crown Wood

By Hugh Fort
September 05, 2012

A thief got more than he bargained for when a group of people, including the man he stole from, chased him down and caused him to drop the bag of cash he swiped.

The man grabbed the money from the 50-year-old as he walked to the post office at the Crown Wood Shops in Opladen Way at around 10.20am on Monday.

However, the victim and two other men all took off in pursuit.

Another woman across the road also joined in the chase, which led to to the thief falling and dropping the money, which was recovered by the owner.

The man then fled in the direction of Banbury.

Police believe around five minutes later two people may have seen him driving past in a Blue Ford Focus, possibly one of the newer models.

He is white, around 5ft tall, and of medium build.

He was wearing a white baseball cap and dark rimmed glasses, a dark top, white jogging bottoms and white trainers. and was clean-shaven.

PC Dan Hayward, from Bracknell police station, said: “I would like to hear from anyone who can help identify this man or the royal blue Ford Focus.”

Anyone with information can call PC Hayward on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

It's a long way to run to Banbury (70 odd miles according to my map) ~ no wonder he jumped in his motor. Even then, it's an hour and a quarter's drive. Fair play to the people who chased him down - good work!!!

After fleeing in the direction of Banbury, the thief could then have opted to head for Loughborough or Nuneaton - and reached either in under two minutes. Check a local map Mr Jefferies:-)

"The man then fled in the direction of Banbury" Good grief, PC Foot's in-helmet GPS must have been playing up!
